I see Ellis mando advertised as Deluxe models....I thought he made only one model?

There are two models. The deluxe is top and side bound. I don't know what other differences there are.

is the difference just in the binding? are there any better woods used? anything else?? i'd really like one of these mandolins one day.

The difference in the Special is mostly binding, though they have special wood usually quilted maple, its not better wood. I have also been working on a Standard model, here's the first one

It has plain ivoroid binding

and this one has an A-3 style inlay, but I'll come up with something else in my spare time

Beautiful, beautiful work !. I remember reading an article in the old 'Frets' magazine many years ago re.your mandolins Tom. Your instruments have almost become 'legendary' regarding the quality of both build & sound - easy to see why !!!,

Mr Ellis I played a rather remarkable
Mando of yours this weekend that was relatively new. I had played some good ones of yours before but this particular mando was pretty freakin ridiculous. Great work.

That thing is immaculate; it just makes me realize how shoddily the scroll on my Eastman was put together... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

The old cliche it true...But you can't argue with the comments that continue to come about Tom's mandolins...Sound-wise they are phenomenal...But fit and finish they are perfect...The scroll is perfect in every way...Where many ignore, Tom gives the attention needed to set his mandolins a part from the pack...
