I thought Larry played a Loar.

I talked to Larry once about his mando.
Some guy had that mando built custom, then found a Loar in a wood shed somewhere and bought it from some old lady, so the custom instrument was for sale and Larry bought it.
I don't remember the name of the builder.

That's a short version of the story as told to me.

I am not sure, I think it is an older Gibson, probably a Loar. I videotaped the Reno brothers TV show with Claire Lynch and the Super Pickers section had Larry and Dale (?on mando) Reno twinning Wheelhoss, and Kenny Smith's guitar break to it was monster. I'll have to look that show up and watch it again, I forgot about that gem.

Nope not a Gibson. It is a Gibson copy by Marion Kirk in Alabama. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Kirk mandolins are great. I used to have a Kirk Loar copy.

He has made some like mine and Larry's that says Gibson with a flowerpot.
