Another BC Swing Workshop is on for this summer in Sorrento, British Columbia, a beautiful six-hour drive from either Vancouver or Calgary. As usual there will be nearly round-the-clock music making with a swing emphasis (but with lots of room for show tunes, latin jazz, bebop, choros, and even a little bluegrass). Excellent teachers are on hand once again for guitar, bass, fiddle, and voice, plus horns, percussion, keyboard and swing dancing. Plus special workshops, jams, band labs, concerts, and dances with live big band (and I mean BIG). I've been there the past few years giving an improv class for all instruments, plus workshops on choro and other topics, and it's a ball. This year I'm delighted to be teaching the mandolin class. All levels and orientations are welcome. The website:

I'll be glad to answer any questions asked here or by PM.

And did I mention the workshop is held at the beautiful Sorrento Centre, which has its own beach on magnificent Shuswap Lake? There's lodge accommodation and camping on the grounds, plus nearby motels for the posh set. There's still some spaces, but that can't last long. Should be a blast.

I've been to the camp numerous times over the last ten years, studied with John Reischman,Radim Z. and last year studied with Bruce. The camp has always been a great time! I'm sorry I can't make it back this year (due to a contract job I have). If you are serious about improving your swing and Choro chops, this is a wonderful camp in a beautiful setting. It can be a bit intimidating for beginners, so if you are, swallow your fear and throw yourself into it. People will treat you kindly. There are classes for beginners, but many of the players that show up are intermediate to advance. If you are an advanced beginner or intermediate player, and can also read somewhat, you will gain a lot by going to this.
Bruce was a fun teacher, knows a huge amount about jazz guitar, theory, as well as playing and teaching a lot choro on mandolin. He graciously added me to his advanced jazz guitar lessons (mainly theory) and I had a great time. I would most certainly study with him again when I go back next year.
Highly recommended!
