View Full Version : I'm sick of the Thinking About A BRW topic
Thomas

OK, I don't post a lot anymore, but when I come here, I see Thinkng About A BRW at the top of the Info on Mandolins discussion section, every time. #Either we're getting lazy with topics, people are having a small conversation with themseleves, or everybody on the planet wants a BRW. Can we change the subject already?
Now I feel better. #Carry on. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif
As a matter of fact I have been thinking about starting a thread called Not Thinking About A BRW just to kind of balance things out in a feng shui sort of way. Not there's anything wrong with Thinking About A BRW mind you. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

While I find it easy to skip any topic, did want folks to have an optional change of pace.
I'm thinking about the Brentrup mandolin Hans is building for me now.
In case you haven't seen the construction photos, they've been posted on the Brentrup thread over in the "post pictures of your mandolin" area.
I don’t watch much TV but every time I start flipping through the channels I land on that Lifetime for Women channel. #I’m sick of that channel…it’s always there on my TV. #They are always talking about woman issues… but somehow I’m still drawn to the Lifetime channel like a moth to a flame. #Do you think I could call the cable company and have it removed from my listings? #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
Troll on!
Good, Another BRW thread. What exposure.
Thanks Thomas

Oh never mind... not much room in the trunk for the mandobass.

Huh? #Doesn't 'BRW' stand for the trio of most desired mandolins to own? #Brentrup. Rigel. Weber. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Well let's just get them all out of the way all at once:
What are the best strings for me to use? And what's the best mando for a beginner under $100? Does Chris Thile play too many notes? Are Gibson Master Models worth the money? Was Bill Monroe really all that good? What's wrong with the Country Music Channel? Are Electric mandos cool or are they an abomination? Should Sam Bush cut his hair?
I can't think of any others right now. Did I miss any? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I find the responses to this thread interesting because, apparently like Thomas, I also wish the aforementioned thread would die.
I find it hard to believe that the thread is still on topic and that it hasn't just become a "chat room".
I don't read the thread because I'm not thinking about a BRW and I suspect that a good 50% of the discussion there isn't strictly about that topic either (although I now expect to be roundly flogged along with Thomas).

I'm not thinking of a hippopotamus.
Are dovetail neck joints really that much better than bolt-on necks?
Honestly......I was thinking the same thing yesterday. No slight on BRW, Ben builds a great mando. But dang.....they are a long winded bunch on that thread!
Like Thomas, I'm not around here as much these days so carry on.....

OK, since Scotti asked, I just posted a new picture in the other area of the Brentrup strung up in the white.

Well, this kinda backfired. Now we have two threads popping up about BRW's. And yeah, I'm still thinking about it!
Now my head hurts.....I gotta quit think'n.....
Man....I wish life was so simple for me that all I had to do was worry about threads on a message board! #

I've seen this happen several times and I just think its odd: the classifieds will list someone looking for an item, yet scroll down just a little on the classifieds and there is the very same item for sale!

500 Round trip? It's 750 one way to the border from my garage. My longest day trip was ~800 miles, that was the day I decided to sell it.
Best,
Ken
500 Round trip?
Yeah...I was living in Texas at the time.

I can't believe that people get so worked up over something so simple. If you don't like it don't read it and move on.

I must say, it's pretty confusing to have a non-thread like this. I've always had a problem understanding an identity based on non. Non-smoker, non-mormon (it's a local thing), non-invasive, etc. How can something be defined as the simple lack of something else? Can we know something based solely on what it isn't?
This thread defeats any problem I had with non. If it's a non-BRW thead, it's a thread about everything, no, ANYthing else. Defined by limitless possibilities.
Joy to all,
Ken (the non-fugitive)

I keep thinking of the overwhelming popularity of a TV show that was about nothing. Is this a thread about nothing?
BTW, which better, radiused or flat, tone bars or x-bracing?

I think there's been enough of this today. I'm shutting this one down. The original point I think was bumping threads to the top for no reason other than to have them appear at the top. Maybe there's some kind of quasi-marketing effort there or something. I don't know. I agree it's annoying, but it's not enough to get concerned about. In order for that other thread to continue in the future I'll expect it to continue in a civil tone, and no knock-off threads either, please. Thanks.
