Let me start by saying that I am no fan of reality TV, nor are the musicians I will talk about, but I still think this is noteworthy. Linked below is video for a new show that will start at the end of the month on The CW called "Farmer Wants a Wife." The set up is that 10 city girls go out to the farm to try to woo a bachelor farmer. Lest you conclude this format will bomb, the concept has been a top show for many years in seven other countries, including Australia and England. The farmer chosen for the first US season is right here in Missouri, not far from St. Louis. The whole season was shot last Fall.
Now for the mando content. In one of the episodes the farmer takes the girls to a contra dance. Near the beginning of the linked video, you see just a second of it, including a shot of the band. The band includes Curtis Buckhannon on mandolin, his brother Dennis on guitar, Geoff Seitz and Mark Reynard on fiddles and Dave Landreth on clawhammer banjo, all seriously good musicians. They are recording a CD as "The Farmertones" in conjunction with the premier of the series and will offer it for sale on website set up for that purpose.
Anyhow, the series may be ridicuous, but its nice to see some good old-time musicians get some attention.
