Any of my fellow mando-geeks familiar with these folks?

Listening to '99 national mando champ Anthony Hannigan was an intimidating experience! Fortunately, talking to him was not. He showed some of us fans, up close & personal, the mandolin he plays onstage- it's called a San Juan, I think. We even had a little discussion about TI strings- use the heavy gauge, not the medium he said.

Altogether, a fun & interesting festival last weekend.

You gotta love the Hickory Project and Anthony Hannigan is one of the best mandolin players in the business. I'll get to see them this coming weekend at the Smoked Country Jam Fest.

Anthony has to be one of the nicest folks I have ever met ... and that goes for Danny, Sue, Steve and Dave. If you go see them, you should definately take time to introduce yourself and say hello. You are sure to be welcome.
THP put on a great show out here in Colorado at the 1st annual Northfork Valley Bluegrass Festival recently. Some great bands showed up ... and if I hadn't spent most of my time hanging out with THP members — and picking Bobby Winteringhams new San Juan mandolins — I would have seen them. Good thing it was a small festival, so I could "hear" the whole thing.

Yo Aimee, where did you see THP play? Are you in CO?

Note: Another great new/young band to keep and eye out for is Broke Mountain. These guys put on an AMAZING show Sat. night at the festival. I was blown away. You can check some of there demo songs at Broke Mountains website (http://www.brokemountain.com), and they should have a new CD available VERY soon. It's going to be hot. Anthony has already signed them up for the Hickory Festival this year in PA. So see them!

Ditto to all the cudos above, we had the pleasure of seeing THP here in Denmark last month and a follow-up show at the EWOB festival in Holland, a real treat. Anthony was playing his Gilchrist here, gave a wonderful workshop with all kinds of help. A lot a talent in that group, and a great bunch of people. Highly recommended.

Do you know more about these SanJuan mandolins, mandorado? Anthony said they were made out West somewhere; can't remember where. (World's worst short-term memory). The thing was a cannon, at least when he played it. He said the Gilchrist is his second.

Where's smoked country festival, doublestop? I heard THP at the Mayville BGF on beautiful Chautauqua Lake (shameless plug) a stone's throw from my town. Best part: there were high end mando's being passed to me to test drive like they were cheap candy.

Happy pickin', y'all.

Yeah, Anthony kicks some serious tail. He plays so fast you can bare hear the individual notes, but it's all perfectly accurate, and I love his jazzy tone and style. Plus, he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

The Smoked Country Jam is in Lock Haven, PA. Not too terribly far from Williamsport (The Home of the Little League World Series).

Yes, indeed it was a fun one, but very cold last night. Did you catch Johnny Staats? He's no slouch either. Hey, Aimee, I was also lucky enough to play Anthony's San Juan this weekend. It's a dandy and every bit as good as his Gil. I wonder if I met you Strings? We were the musical vendors there. Try not to miss the MIM Fest. Hickory Project throws a great festival. Hope to see you there.
