Today one of my students brought in the chords for Dance Tonight that she had downloaded from the tab archives here at he Cafe.
She had searched it out a week ago and was wondering why she couldn't get it to sound like McCartney's recording. So, I had a listen and came up with the following corrections:
1) There isn't a D = 2-0-0-2 in the whole piece.
All of the D chords are D/G = 0-0-0-2.
2) The progression for the intro, verse and whistling solo is:
G D/G G D/G C D/G G
3) The progression for the vocal bridge is:
Fmaj7 G Fmaj7 D/G
4) In the instrumental bridge the Am chord is clearly played 2-2-3-0,
not 2-2-3-5
5) Because of the mix, it is hard to tell for sure but the Caug seems to be fingered 1-2-3-4 -- though I prefer the parsimonious voice-leading of:
C = 0-2-3-0
Caug = 1-2-3-0
Am = 2-2-3-0
In this way the "g" moves by half-step to "g#" and then to "a".
I hope some of you find this useful.
