Fiddler's Green Music Shop is now open in Austin, TX. #We are an all-acoustic shop and we focus pretty heavily on mandolins. #We carry Altmans, Breedloves, Webers, Eastmans, Kentuckys, Rigels, and hope to add some more independent makers. #Once we get rolling we plan to have some jam sessions, workshops, concerts, etc. #We're excited to continue being a part of the online mandolin community and the local Austin scene.
Come by and see us!

Why couldn't you have opened 3 weeks ago. Now I'm gonna have to take another 3 hour drive out to Austin. Jk

What about collings and Ellis? Right there in Austin as well as passernig and John Allison is there.

Me and some friends will definitely come by.

I'm a fiddler, and I bought some green music from these guys, and by the time I got home it was brown! It's hard enough to find fiddler's green music as it is, so I was hoping these guys would work out, but I guess you can lump them in with all the others. Dang it, someone needs to do something about this, it's outright depressing!

What? Oh, never mind...

Great good wishes on your new business venture!

I just caught that info on the front page. Been out to your website and took a look around. I am looking forward to doing business with you.

Are you going to set up a mailing list, via Email of course, to keep people informed as to what is going on at the shop?

Best of luck in this endeavor!

Peace Always,
Todd

Aw, I miss Austin so much. Why couldnt you have been there 5 years ago? Seriously, good luck, it sounds like you have a great selection and Austin is a great place for this type of store. I will be sure to visit if I'm ever back out that way.

I drove up from San Antonio, with a buddy, today to check it out. It's a nice place and should be better when they get finished with the interior. Nice atmosphere, comfortable seating. Well worth a visit if you love acoustic instrument. Great stock of Celtic instruments. Reminds me a little of Appalachian Bluegrass in Baltimore.

I found the mando family room the strongest draw. They have an good selection of mandos for every budget. I really liked the Altmans but the pricing was a little steep for my next mando. The stripped neck on the Altmans I played confirmed that is something I need to do to my Eastmans. The Webers were more likely in my next upgrade price range. They sounded great too.

Across the room were the Trinity College mando family instruments. This was my first time with this type of mando style. I really like the sound while remaining concerned about the placing it in my style of playing.

Anyway, Great Shop, Take a Look...

Thanks for the info Clay. Glad I checked into the forum today.

BUT, dagnabbit!!! At the price of diesel lately the last thing I needed to do was budget
in a 160 mile trip. No doubt about it... I'm going to have to make the trip.

Congrats Clay! I'm always glad to see quality music shops open in Texas, even if y'all are three hours away. One of these days I certainly hope to get by there.

I'm proud to announce that John Allison is going to be my instrument repair technician! He is an incredible guitar luthier and I'm honored to have him associated with my shop.

I just played one of the Altman's in this shop and it was one of the finest mandolins I've ever played (and I have played a lot of fine mandolins). It was incredible. Had that Monroe tone. I just wish I had $9500.

Sweet! I have a Martin 58 o-18 that was may grandads brothers and is now my grandads that I would like to get into stage ready condition. Normally I would do it myself or me and my grandad would do it but its a special instrument and I would like it in good hands. So...what do you think? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I'm in houston so I could easily get out to Austin.

John Allison is an incredible luthier. He has done work on many of my instruments and I have played many that he has made. He is also a heck of a nice guy. Highly recommended. Good luthier pick, fiddlers green!
