I use to take lessons from an old time guy out at the 5th string on Pleasantburg Dr. They can point you in the right direction.

I agree, go to 5th String music store on Pleasantburg...Susan Snyder, the owner, will point you in the right direction. I think they have a guy there that teaches mando.

I have asked some of the mando players in the better local bands (like Wooden Nickel Band and 5th String Band) if they teach, but they don't...

BTW, I live in Simpsonville. I'd consider myself intermediate and play mainly bluegrass, but I'd be glad to show you some of what I've learned...

Thanks,
Brian in Simpsonville http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Greetings Brian...I'm in Simpsonville area too....I've been looking for someone just to get together and pick with, and haven't had a lot of luck....I'm a 46 yr old beginner...started taking guitar lessons last November for the first time in my life..wanted to concentrate on bluegrass, and I'm making some progress there....but, since I like bluegrass, I decided to get a mandolin and learn some of that too. Nothing I like better than sitting around having a couple of beers and picking a little........Get in touch if your interested.

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many mandolin players
around here! Can anyone reccomend an instructor around
the Charlotte/Gastonia area of NC?

Thanks,

Jon
