Has anyone played a Prucha F and what do they think of this builder?

Oliver Waitze from Germany had a couple Prucha's at the EWOB festival in Holland last month, I thought they were pretty good sounding mandolins, Though I didn't get a lot of time for comparison. He has some pictures of them at the website for his shop.

Oliver is a fine player on anything with strings and their group "Trio Vibracao" took 3rd place at the EWOB festival. They play lot more than bluegrass.

The Pruchas I've played have been first-rate instruments, with good traditional tone. Prucha's a veteran builder, and I think he's doing his best work now.

i've played both of the prucha F's that greg boyd has now. i think that they're both great instruments. i would buy either one of them before any collings or modern gibson that i've played. they have a really rich sound up the neck that i really like.
just my opinion-i can't afford any of those mandos.

I know Jarda Prucha. I met him probably 10 or 12 years ago when he was first able to travel to this country. He used to hang out at the shop I used to work in to learn what he could about the American instruments and help out some in return.
He's a very good craftsman and a nice guy.
If you like the sound and feel, base your decision on that. There's nothing wrong with the workmanship.

I suppose I should do stuff like this rather than just think about it. Once when I said I'd like to travel to Europe and visit him he said "I'll give you a job". Could have been a cheap way to see part of the world.

Well I decided aganst a Collings MF amd in favor of a Prucha F from Greg Boyd.Everything I have learned about this luthier seems to be first rate and in a place for really great wood.

For that kind of money, it would be best if you could go to Greg's to do side-by-side comparisons of all his upper-end instruments (all new/used instruements currently in stock). If you don't have the time to travel to Greg's, then have him and his crew pick out the best/richest/whatever-sounding instrument in his shop for you (trust his and crew's judgement). From what I've seen, Greg (and others, of course) usually have one or two instruments that stand out above the others, regardless of brand--you might as well have the "best" inasmuch as you will be spending relatively big bucks and likely will have the instrument for a long, long while. My two cents.

Hello Rick,

I personally play Prucha Mandolins because of their powerful sound and unsurpassed craftsmanship by master builder Jarda Prucha. I offer these mandolins in my Shop - in these days I have 2 F-Models and 2 A-Modells with excellent woods. Please check my web site www.newacousticgallery.com to see the pics!!please let me know if you have more questions.
