Sorry to keep asking all the newbie questions.

I think that is a very individual thing. An arm rest can make playing more comfortable, improve tone and put your forearm in a better position, depending on how you play without an arm rest. I think a good guide for stuff like that is try it, if you like it, use it, if not, don't. There really isn't any universal answer for everyone.

I was wondering the same thing and then finally got one and like it alot. One way to tell if it might help is to take a look at your right picking arm after you have played for 20 min. or more and see if the underside of your arm that rests on the top has an impression of the rim of the top. My arm had this after playing so I thought I would try one and it is much more comfortable to play plus I gained some volumn by allowing the top to move more freely. I got a Siren arm rest , well made and looks good.
I placed a thread on the Equipment forum to learn how people like their Weber combination tailpiece/armrest. My Old Wave A-oval has a stamped steel tailpiece and I get the under-forearm indentation mentioned above. So I'm wondering what to expect with the Weber combo solution. So far no one's admitted using one.

Thank you for the help I do get the mark under my forearm
I might have one of the local music shops order me one. I might even order a weber/talepice combo and try it out. If anyone else has other info. on this please tell me.
On the Weber website they ask you to send a paper tracing of the curve of your mando so they make it just exactly perfect.
Do you need to use their metal endpin?

Lee, A guy I pick with on occasion bought the Weber combo for his Breedlove. He said he wishes now that he had bought the Siren armrest. The first complaint he had was when he took off an almost brand new set of TI strings and mounted the combo armrest he couldn't resuse the TI strings because the string pegs on the Weber are a lot lower than the ones on the Breedlove tailpiece. His other complaint was that the Weber is in a fixed position and to be effective it requires him to hold the neck at a little shallower angle than he would prefer. Whereas the Siren can be moved up or down depending on personal preference. As always YMMV.

GVD is right about moving the armrest around. I had to try several different positions for my Siren until I got the placement right.
