I just made my commitment to Zoukfest in June. I've got the dates secured (I might be either coming back from or leaving for Europe right before or after), and talked Herself into my vacating the mountain for a few days...

And just to make sure that I don't end up bringing a knife to a gunfight, I'm awaiting delivery of a Peterson Level 1 zouk which should be here Wednesday.

So, who's braving the New Mexico high country?

Just a reminder (NFI) tomorrow is the last day to register and enter the lottery for free admission. Of course, the fewer people who enter, the better my chances...

Damn,
Santa Fe's my old stomping grounds - I lived there for 13 years. My ex-wife is a teacher at CSF http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
If I had the time off, and wasn't in the midst of trying to sell our house and find a new one, I'd go just to show off my cittern! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif
Scott, we need a "" smiley, dangit!

Well, I was hoping to go this year, but ended up doing this lutherie course instead... and no way I can swing both. I am such an Andy Irvine fan, I was really hoping to make it....

oh well...
one thing at a time, I suppose...

Yes Karen....I wish I could go too http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Maybe another year.

If you are around in July, you can come up to play in session as the East Durham Irish week in the Catskills. Alec Finn will be there. I can't make the classes but I should be there for the last couple of days - playing in the sessions..

We've still trying to bring Andy to NJ for a small concert/workshop. Nothing yet, but keep your fingers crossed.

Zookfest is high on my wish list though - with the combination of the Irish and Middle Eastern music it's absolutely tailored fit for me.

I'll be there. There is also the New Mexico Luthier's Showcase on the opening Sunday. Several builders will be hanging around for the week.

And I will be there for the first few days. GD and I are doing a bit of a road trip along Route 66. Just the thing for a foreign tourist http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

So is the builders day Sunday the 8th? I remember that but can't find it on the website. If it is on a Sunday I'll be there for that for sure. I can't because it's my busy season for my business but hopefully I'll see some of you then.

Ooo, count me in for the growler action! Heck, I gave up a chance to play on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood to make it out for the opening salvo weekend.

Roger, any possibility of DVDs of Andy Irvine and/or Luke Plumb workshops? #I'm sure they'd be popular here!!!

I heard my friends Rob and Linda from Boston had a chance to play with you while they were in Santa Fe.

We don't videotape classes so we won't be offering any DVDs.

At some point, budget permitting, ZoukFest may issue more instructional DVDs besides the two we shot at ZF 2001. More info about them here: http://www.zoukfest.com/store/

Yes, Rob and Linda just happened to be in Albuquerque a couple of weeks ago when I was hosting a session there. It was great having them at the session.

Well, how 'bout a report on Zoukfest '08? Inquiring minds want to know...

Will update soon... MANY pictures, amazing time with some great folks. Little sleep... I'm downloading photos to a memory card so I can post some shots from the road... I'm leaving tomorrow for Europe (with a weekend in Dublin which I'm looking forward to) so when I get some photos up, I'll post again...

One downside... My Petersen's top split right down the middle. There were several folks who suffered cracks in instruments due to humidity shift, but I was surprised to have mine go, since Prescott is nearly the same climate as Santa Fe. It's (soon to be) back in Bill's hands for some repair work. I'm hoping he and his shop are not floating away with the floods in Iowa...
