My old buddies in the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra have launched a YouTube site.
http://www.youtube.com/user/LouisvilleMandos
Of special interest is a cool 1989 performance of deFalla's La Vida Breva with the original Modern Mandolin Quartet. Sam Bush and Peter O. are sitting in too. I had a great seat, right behind John Imholz, and it's a great blast of nostalgia for me. I'm biased but I think it still sounds pretty good.
Richard Van Kleeck, the mastermind behind the old Lonesome Pine Specials series, was our guest conductor and he added percussion to the arrangement that the MMQ brought in.
The other videos (so far) include another special moment for me, the group playing my little piece "Up River Road" at the same concert/TV taping. There are also two cool performances from the 1993 CMSA convention in Nashville. The Bartok in particular was one of my favorite things we played in those ancient times.
I was hoping the LMO folks would toot their own horn but I think they're being a little shy. So, even though one of the pieces is by me, I'm getting the word out.
I'm not sure that anyone from the group is reading this forum so don't hesitate to make comments at their YouTube site. Or their MySpace site for that matter.
Ah, the good old days...
