I recently purchased a used F-style Dean Martin Mandolin fro $200.00 including a case. #It is in good condition and I like the way it sounds. I am new to the mandolin universe, have wanted one for a while but don't really know too much about them. #I just wanted to check with y'all on your opinions concerning the quality of this mandolin. Also the letters BGF are printed on the truss rod cover, what does that mean? Thanks for any reply!!

A Dean Martin mandolin? I guess you'll need to get the Jerry Lewis banjo to go with it...But seriously, I have never heard of a Dean Martin. There are Dean mandolins and there are Martin mandolins, but a Dean Martin? Better watch out for that one; it's been know to get drunk a lot and hold grudges for years.

I have a Dean BGF(Blue Grass F) that I like for using as a travel/beach/ campfire instrument, and keep it handy near my desk for breaks from work, and playing while I read this forum!
Get good harmonics on 5, 7, 12 frets.I bought it new with a case about a year ago for 400. The sound is getting better the more it is played, and the action is good.Pretty nice workmanship and finish for the price
It has a decent sound for a flat top F. The carved top model Dean F has a louder and better sound. Play outside a lot, near the ocean, in the woods, porches etc. Have used it at bluegrass festival jams, and it keeps up. Not much snob appeal,it is what it is, but good to have around.

This has to be from the Rat Pack series!
Ain't that a kick in the head? If you like the Dean Martin just wait until you hear a Frank Sinatra mandolin. The E string ring a ding dings.

I wish I had a Dean Martin mandolin, then it'd be like he sang about himself in "The Man Who Plays the Mandolino"

Don't be a square Moose baby this clambake is just getting started and you're already talking bombsville? I thought you was a 18 Karat big leaguer not a Harvey. Let's lose Charley and bring in a couple of barn burners who like to twirl. It'll be a gas paley!
