View Full Version : Searching for mando stand info
I'm trying to find some messages with comments on different mandolin stands. Searching for mandolin AND stand brings up messages with understand, standard etc.

I'd offer: I've seen they largely fall into 2 categorys,
generally those 2 types,
sit low on the floor and support from beneath, leaning back in the stand.
or hang from the headstock, and a bit higher off the floor.
So as to narrow the field, which would you prefer?
[FWIW,the rifling thru the boxes sort of search ,
of looking thru past topics manually,
comes off the Bottom of the section
menus asking how far back, in months, down there]

I'm also looking for a stand. Probably one of those triangular floor stands that easily fold up when not in use.

A Cafe sponsor, The Mandolin Store has a mandolin/banjo stand for $11.99. I don't know much about it though. They will be happy to answer questions.

I use the Hercules stand for guitar. It holds the mandolin by the headstock and hangs down. It's the perfect height so you do not need to bend over to pick it up.
I took a piece of sponge pipe wrap and wrapped it around the stand where the mandolin would hit if it swung back far enough. But I used it a long time without the wrap and it never hit. Just put it one there in case someone falls or walks into it.
It is VERY sturdy made and I carry two of them in a zip up bag I can throw over my shoulder.

of the folding triangular sit on the floor type, I have a 'Pocket Titan' for solid body guitars, that does that job.
[if you look at the inventory pictures at Elderly, thats what they use, there]
many are made for electric guitars that will do.
Hercules offers one of that type too , as well as their AutoGrab hanging type for 1,2 or 3 instruments
String Swing triple offers a folding tripod stand for 3 instruments ,
neck sipport fork adjustable in width,
and height can be adjusted for each,
folds up compact .. accessory bag on offer .

Search appears to be broken right now. I'm dropping a note to Scott. In the meantime, take a look at the Ingles SA-20 Violin/Viola stand. You can get them at www.internationalviolin.com (http://www.internationalviolin.com) as well as other places.

The Hercules electric guitar stand is very cool for mandolins. Sturdy and compact. I don't have one but the other mando player in my band does. I like the folding-triangle Konig & Meyer as well; that's what I use most often.

Aformentioned Ingles stand is great (right); also like the CC04 Comfort Cradle stand mount (left) for a smaller stage footprint, as well. For mandos that have a 1/4" cord coming out the endpin jack, this is better because of the wider clearance off the floor:

I love my Ingles AS20 stand. I have had the stand knocked over before and the Mando never touched the floor. The telescoping bow hanger is also a nice place to hang your hat. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

And a nice place to hang the strap.

Hi Folks!
I'm looking for a mandolin stand but actually I'm more out to invest in a multiple instrument stand. One that would hold two acoustic guitars and a mandolin sturdy and safe. It would be nice to come across one that has a bottom fork (like for the guitar) but was adjustable so I could slide it up the stand so it could also support my mandolin from the bottom instead of it just hanging from the top fork.
Can a separate, thumb screw bottom fork alone be purchased that I could add it to the stand so it would serve that specific purpose (for the mandolin), is there such an outfit out there already set up to buy or are there any suggestions?
Thanks! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

I use the Hercules stand for guitar. It holds the mandolin by the headstock and hangs down ... I took a piece of sponge pipe wrap and wrapped it around the stand where the mandolin would hit if it swung back far enough.
This is exactly what I've done as well, including the part about the sponge pipe wrap. When I fold up the stand, I just slip off the split sponge, fold up the legs, and re-install the pipe wrap beneath the legs. Works great, adds no weight at all, and no worry about whacking the back of the rim against the post.

I have a fork that grabs the headstock. #It clamps onto the vertical post of my music stand just below the tray. #Ity would also clamp onto a mic stand if that were preferred. #At home I have the ingles on a coffee table in the corner with my mando waiting for me.
Thanks to everyone for all the stands comments. I originally was looking for a close-to-the-floor stand, but with all the other comments and suggstions, I'm thinking I need to at least look at the other brands [even if it is via internet]. Our local music store is mostly a guitar and amp store.

Same here, only I use the Hamilton guitar stand that holds the headstock. I went one step fancier and covered the foam with Polartech material and attached velcro to hold it on the stand.
Used it for years & love it.

Other than for supporting my bowl-back Ovation mando, I'm way into the Ibanez "Pocket Titan" for mandolins. It's perfect.

Well I could use an inexpensive mandolin stand but one that is good...I had a guitar stand, small triangular, and the ends of the bar caught in the F hole and nicked my instrument so now I have to touch it up....and realize that the stand I have is dangerous for that instrument. Hopefully one made for a mandolin specifically will not have the ability to cause damage like this?

I use a "String Swing" 3WAY (https://www.stringswing.com/products/product_info.php?product_id=110&ref_category=5), to hold my mandolin, ukulele, and guitar. It's great, and made in USA!

I'm a big fan of the Hamilton KB38 hanging stand. It's marketed as a guitar stand, but it works very well with mandolin also. Very sturdy, stable stand. I highly recommend them.
Take a look at it here:

NOTE to forum mods: The URL tag didn't work for me like it used to.
