Bonus Nachos!
I've been jugglin' some ideas for songs to do for a little birthday soiree, and one that came to mind, one that people would recognize would be Sweet Georgia Brown. Does anyone have any idea how to play this song i.e know how the chord progression may go? The only version I have recorded is the Grisman/Grappeli one, and it is a bit of a bugger to try and interpret. Grisman,Marshall, sheesh! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Fun Tune!!! Look in the Tabledit files on Mandozine.com
There are a coupla versions with varying complexity.
Chords aren't that bad, except the turn-around is a handful.

In the current issue of Mandolin Magazine, in the "On A Jazzy Note" column, you'll find not only the chords but three choruses of suggested licks you can try. The music and TAB is under the heading"Here Comes Sweet Santa Brown". It was the Holiday issue don't you know.

Meanwhile here's the chords in the key of F:

D7/D7/D7/D7

G7/G7/G7/G7

C7/C7/C7/C7

F/F/F/A7

D7/D7/D7/D7

G7/G7/G7/G7

Dm/A7/Dm/A7

F7E7/Eb7D7/G7C7/F

Dawg and them may have done it in G for Stephane...

John Moore nails it, I think it's on TE.

Don, the Hot Club version is in G; I have a live recording of Grapelli with the Diz Disley Trio, in F, and I'm pretty sure he did it in the same key with Grisman.

In bop, as you no doubt know, the traditional key is Ab; Miles Davis based Dig, in that key, on these changes.

I would probably suggest simplified, or at least more ambiguous, blowing changes for the last four bars.

Hi All,

It's fum ! Here in Europa, when we play with bluegrass players, it's in F.
But, when we play with Gypsies... it's in G...

I have not tried with brass instruments yet...

Been listening to the Mulligan Sextet lately. Trumpet player Jon Eardley wrote Demanton on these changes. Nice piece with even nicer soloing by Zoot Sims

I'm convinced they would produce more rhythmic interst at a slower pace. I believe Curtis Jones manages to play an unbroken sequence of 256 eighth notes in his second chorus (the first is mainly the theme).

For another mandolin version, check Skaggs on his That's It! record. Done back in the early-to-mid mid 70's, it features the Ricky hot style during his 'Baroque' period...I Ain't Baroque, But I'm Badly Bent http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
