I'm heading to Asheville, NC next week and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on good music stores to go into? I'm looking for a mandolin, and my husband is looking for a banjo, so any kind a bluegrass store would be helpful! Thanks!

You don't say if you want low,mid or high end stuff. Best in town is BlueRidge Music Center off Hwy 25. Another good store is in downtown Black Mountain called Acoustic Corner. If you want low end there are more.

Also try Celestial Mountain Music in Brevard (about 40 minutes south of Asheville) -- They always have a variety of mandolins, from beginners models to medium-range Webers. Lo Gordon, who co-owns the store with his wife Mary, sells his Cedar Mountain Banjos there, and even a mandolin player like me appreciates what nice banjos they are. They usually have several used mandolins and banjos as well as new ones. It's my local shop (NFI), and they are great people.

Another recommendation for Blueridge Music. Stopped there while on vacation last summer. I think I remember them having Webers and Eastmans among others. The best way to describe it is the total opposite of big discount chain music stores. I think the website is "blueridgemusicstore.com" I bought a strap there I didn't really need because they were so nice.

Bishop Violin Shop in Fairview. Danny Bishop is a Collings and Flatbush dealer, and typically has other mandolins too.
