This song is written to the tune (and chords) of the old Scottish (I think) tune, Garry Owen. (As the lyrics suggest.) Google it. Music is probably on mando cafe or available through many sources. It's a fiddle tune, AABB.

Garyowen is an irish tune I believe, named for a party-hardy district of Limerick.

Tim O'Brien recorded Mick Ryan's Lament. The lyrics page (http://www.timobrien.net/Lyrics2.cfm?ID=176) attribute the writing to Robert Emmet Dunlap, 1999.
