Hi Folks,

I have started a new direction in my videos of my beginning learning. I have learned the folk song "The Ash Grove" and also tried a bit of improvising in it. I new at this improv thing so don't expect melodic greatness or anything.

If you like, check out my new vid:

I know there are MANY other beginners out there.... come on folks... let's post some more vids!

Sweet tune and nice job. I lack the nerve, and thankfully the webcam to be as brave as you.

Very nice. I like the fact that you used a metronome and kept a very steady beat. The impov section was nice. I knew where you were in relation to the tune. You play cleanly and I look for good things to come. Thanks for posting this as a relative beginner. The very process will help you grow as a player. Now... If I would only take on the same challenge.... Kasper

The "metronome" was actually the accompaniment sound file I found on jaybuckey.com There are several good things there. I'm having fun digging around.

Thanks for the comments.

Very nice indeed. One of my favorite tunes, and very well done..I learned it from a Jay Buckey tab and MP3s..his arrangement has some nice embellishments around the melody. If you haven't seen his web site (http://www.jaybuckey.com) you might like it. Lots of free tab and mp3s for traditional and folk tunes for mandolin and other folk instruments.

Duh...just noticed your comment about Jay Buckey above. Don't know how I missed that. But he does have good resources there, doesn't he?

Very pretty song, and nice progress. I also enjoyed hearing the Ovation, which I've not ever played, but always wondered about. I thought it sounded nice. And, the Jay Buckey site rocks!

That was really great http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I have a version of that in my Mel Bay,s MANDOLIN SONGBOOK by Ken Eidson. It has chords mixed right in with the notes. It starts with a low B note then an F chord then an A note and so on.
