As a madoholic that uses the classifieds often in order to help finance my addiction, I appreciate and respect the gracious hospitality of Scott.
If you are a mandolholic who uses the Cafe classifieds, please show your respect and appreciation by removing your ad when your item(s) sell or if they become unavailable.
You could also make a donation. This can be done through the link provided in the column on the left on the home page.
Let's all do our part to help ensure that the Mandolin Cafe remains the premier website for the mandoholics of the world.
Thanks,
Randy Linam

Yes,
I purchased a Rigel on the cafe. Played it for two months (loved it, but MAS) and sold it. I deleted my post only to find the original post that I purchased it off of still on the site! But that's not so bad. The mando is still on the FOTW webpage and it left there doors over a year ago!

That's a riot Paul. FOTW still has the ad for the Phoenix that's been mine for ten-months.

I prefer self-cleaning!
Scott should likely just add some code to delete adds over X days old...

I believe ads are automatically removed from the classified after 30 days. I think that is the default.

Ads can be placed for 30 or 60 days and renewed a maximum of twice before being deleted by the software. If you don't renew, they auto-delete at the initial 30 or 60 day period (after a seven day warning sent by the server).
As far as ads marked "sold" that have been on for a few weeks, unless someone is really watching and documenting daily what is tagged "sold", there's no way to tell when it happened. Hence, you may see something that's been out there for a month and think its an old transaction, but maybe the seller just tagged it sold the day before and is leaving it there until the payment clears. I think that's appropriate and probably a wise idea.
I agree with Randy it's preferred that sellers should delete their ads after the transaction has successfully completed, but that's something only the person placing the ad can determine. Worse case is it sits there until it's auto-deleted. Best case is there's some evidence of what items may be offered for. I don't there's necessarily a problem here but don't mind him mentioning this.
