View Full Version : Weber combination tailpiece/armrest
I'm considering replacing the traditional chromed stamped steel tailpiece on my Old Wave oval-A with a Weber combo tailpiece/armrest. #Has anybody tried one of these? #What did it do to the tone, if anything? #Are string changes easy? #Does it look classy? Any comments will be helpful.

I have one and love it. Firstly I would contact Sound to Earth and buy it directly from them. If your mando is not a Weber they will customize it for you and get it right. I asked Verne Breeke to bull nose the outside radius and it made it way more comfortable. If you want the best performance out of it add a Wood Nymph which takes out harmonics off tones and doubles up as a hand rest.
As far as string changes, I bend the loop end a tad so it pass through without gettin caught. The tail pice itself is heavy cast brass and is really substantial. If you think about it, a better bang for your buck you won't find and it improves not just the sound but gives you a much better ride. Also, there is very little contact with the armrest and the top so better volume from that too! Hope this helps!

Thanks! Hmm, so will it be brass, or nickel to match the tuners.
