Going to cross-post this in a couple of different places ...
The Seattle Mandolin Orchestra is rehearsing Mike Marshall's mandolin concerto for a performance with Mike in Edmonds, Wash., on June 16, 2008. We know there are local players who aren't regularly involved with the orchestra, but might appreciate the chance to sit in for this gig.
You'll need to play your instrument and read music moderately well. This is a challenging piece for all the players -- not just the soloist. It's a bit of a stretch for our orchestra and we could use the help of a few more strong players. That being said, anyone is welcome to come to rehearsals and give it a try to see if the music is within your comfort level. Any mandolin-family instrument -- mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello, mandobass -- is welcome, and so are string basses.
You need to be available to rehearse on Monday nights, 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.
We are a dues-based orchestra; we all pay $50 a year to participate. If you're joining us for this concert, we'll ask that you pay half dues of $25. Not too bad for the opportunity to play with Mike Marshall.
If this piques your curiosity, please send me an e-mail or PM. Find out more about the orchestra at our
Web site (http://seattlemandolin.org).
