Anyone headout to a bluegrass jam, not really into it, but nothin' better to do. Then, bam-- you really loose the whole world around you and discover the world only consists of strings of melody and rhythmic chops for the rest of the evening. A bluegrass glow eminates from me and I feel like I've returned to some tribal state of consousness where the only thing that matters is what song we play next.

I woke up today with the bluegrass buzz still kicking in my head and I love it. Just thought I'd share.
Thanks,
Rich

Not exactly, Rich, but I've had difficulty sleeping soundly (no pun intended) after a jam. Seems like some tunes keep replaying in my memory bank!

I only "kind of, sort of" liked bluegrass before I went to my first festival. Once I realized how much fun it was to stand in that circle and play with other people I was hooked. In that whole weekend I think I saw 3 bands up on the stage. The whole rest of the time (the majority of it) I was down at the jam area.

In fact, I was a guitar player for about 30 years before my first bluegrass jam last year. The very next week I bought a mandolin. (then another mandolin, then a new guitar . . .)

The odd thing is that I had sworn off of playing in bands in my early 20's. I use to say "The worse thing about playing in a band is that you have to deal with musicians". I was so fed up with the arguing and ego trips and the problems of trying to keep a band together. But with Bluegrass jams you get all the fun part without having to worry too much about the other stuff. Sure, occasionally you get the guitar player who plays too loud and plays the same strum to everything. But overall it's just so much fun that I walk away with a glow every time I play.

Yeah, Bluegrass jams are good. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I got to sit down a jam with a friend for about 3hrs Saturday night....I'm just a newbie, but getting better everyday....He is pretty good, and has many years band experience...This was the first time we've gotten together in a while, and I've got to say I was a lot's better this time around...just a good night of singing, and picking. Had that jam buzz all day Sunday...can't wait to do it again..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
