Our 5 piece acoustic band is new to playing with a P A, in fact we've only done it a couple of times. we are using FBT active speakers, Mackie mixer and a AKG 3000b microphone. Since bluegrass music isn't heavy on bass do you think a subwoofer would be of any benefit?
thanks for your time.

Roland made one recently the KCW-1 (keyboard amps line)with 2 channel XLR balanced in/out-thru 200w amp. seems a good pick, ported output, gerbils may move into the cabinet but the speaker is well protected, otherwise.
FBT has one too, but those may not be as easy to haul (bigger 12" Drivers & thus cabinets).
it does add definate bottom end, but mandolin isn't in the range of frequencys that benefit, perhaps the lower overtones on a [undampened, tonegard supported ?] hi end instrument , now if you have a group with a bass, perhaps, and it will add to the recorded stuff that you may play between your live sets.
