I'm thinking of buying a used mando. It's in perfect condition condition except for a chip in the head. It's an A style and the chip is right on top, where the top curves to the side....between 1/8" and 1/4" diameter chip in the finish down to the bare wood.Fortunately, it is on the backside. Is this a serious problem or is it common with used instruments. The mando has great sound and I love the appearance, aside from the chip. Is it something I should be overly concerned about?? Thanks....

Steve, I don't feel a chip in the finish is anything to be concerned about as long as there is not a CRACK in the wood. Heck, chips, scuffs, scrapes and overall finish wear only adds character to a mandolin. Where I live, if you have an instrument thats not scuffed and showing finish wear, the other pickers will look at you funny and think your a sissy-boy! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
