Hey Ya'll,
Anybody know any good sites to get some tab lessons in G besides song tabs? I feel like I'm recycling the same riffs in G for bluegrass jams.

(I've seen the lessons on here and mandozine.)

Anybody have any fav "go to" riffs/licks in G they'd like to share? Love to see them... Can you post tab in these chat threads?

Thanks!

Les, not being a wise guy here, but honestly, listen to a lot of bluegrass that you like. The licks are there, all you have to do is learn them well enough to be able to sing them, then sound them out on your mandolin. There's really no substitute for practicing/playing until you got it cold. And don't stop with G, either.

ive looked for licks online several times, and most are either boring, sound cliche, or are hard to apply. i got "101 Red Hot Bluegrass Mandolin Licks and Solos" from mel bay for lick bones. almost all of the licks are at the "easy" level, but it gets your fingers moving in different ways. the real benifit of this book is the 2 bar section, most licks in that section are open and call out for something. this sparks you to play something that "fits" with them and responds to them. there are samples on melbays website.

Try humming the melody and then start adding your own embellishments. Then find the notes on the mandolin. I find this method more effective.

Check out some of the lessons on Music Moose. He's got some intros and licks on there. Not all in G, but most could easily be transposed, I think.
