I was thinking about getting some new tuners for my 1918 Gibson A, but heard that modern replacements (Schallers, Grovers, Gotohs, etc) won't fit mandolins of this era. Anybody know if this is true, or where I could find some replacements?

Thanks,

Patrick

Anybody making replacement tuners for A's? I have a '24 A2 I need some for. Hi Patrick!! Hows recovery going (from surgery, you all).

I've got a '24 A-Jr and ordered Schallers from Stew-Mac. #There are two codes on the box, and I guess either could be the part number. #One is 592, and the other is MNI3 or MN13. #Whatever they are, the tuners fit like a glove.

The Schallers will fit a 1924 but won't fit a 1918.
The spacings changed right around 1920. The old spacing was 15/16 and the new spacing is 29/32. It doesn't seem like much but it is enough to make them not fit.
This question comes up a lot. I also need a set to fit a 1915.
I have stolen pieces off 3 sets to make one decent set but I am still not happy.
Also I need a set for a 1916, which I stole the parts off.
There are a lot of people looking for these because there are a lot of pre-1920 Gibsons still around. I would have thought that someone would have started making replicas by now but if they are they are keeping it a secret.
If you ever hear of any let us all know.
