pickup alteration

just got a k & k mandolin pickup for my kentucky, very good sound. only problem is, there is no tone or volume controls. tones not too big of a deal, but i really want to be able to adjust my volume. Is there anyway i can rewire and throw on a control know or two? or am i going ruin everything and throw that 120 bob out the window?

Schatten makes a volume control black box, it plugs into the end pin jack, and the cord plugs into it, small and simple. see them at StewartMcDonald [link on this site]
Boss EQ stomp pedal has a gain as well as the tone controls.

you could also try a volume pedal.
