I've been having some trouble learning triplets like this:
e--------
a----0-1-
d--5-----
g--------
# | | |
# -----
# # 3
Anybody got any tips on how to pull em' off?
Thanks,
-Ben

pick the G(5) on the D string, then pick the open A string and then hammer-on the 1st fret of the A string. That way your pick stroke will be down, up and then you are ready to go on from there because your next pick stroke will be down. Hopefully that helps.

Are you having difficulty with the triplet itself, or with the follow-up notes after you have completed the triplet?

with actually picking the two notes on one string and then a 3rd on the second in the time of a triplet. my pick just dosnt want to move to the the next string.

What about third position...Fifth fret on D string with your first finger, seventh fret, then to eighth?

Your pattern seems straightforward, so I am not sure what may be causing your problem, unless your pick is overshooting the notes with too broad a stroke. Otherwise, i appears to be a straightforward DUD triplet figure. Are you having trouble incorporating the triplet at the rate of speed at which you are already playing the rest of your song? If that is the case, try playing the rest of the song very slowly and see if it is easier to fit the triplet in that way. Once you get it all put together very slowly, you can then start to increase the tempo, with the triplet in place. As I also said on a previous post, if you are having trouble with the flow of notes after the triplet, you may also want to try using two "up" picks immediately following the triplet, rather than using a "down" for your very next pick. That should help the flow.

I probably just need to try it slower. But I wanted to know if there was some kind of method to it.
Thanks.

down down up.. the left hand will gain speed if you practice it in context, ie play the whole phrase (not just the triplet). Pick each note, get a nice comfortable grip and relax, then play it 500 times..
