I ve been playing mando for about 2 years, guitar for 20.I have an eclectic jazzy/bluesgrass lead style that Ive developed only by playing in a Denton Tx based band that I cant rehearse with on a regular basis.I would love to meet some other Okies who are interested in pushing theyre abilities, or at least driving the neighbors nuts. # # # #Pinebox Serenade (http://www.soundclick.com/pro/?BandID=141079)

Im not exactly C&W material but Im getting awful curious. If you pm me Ill let you know how to get in touch with me.

I live in Stillwater and would enjoy jamming with any bluegrass pickers in central OK as well as anyone just interested in acoustic music, original especially. I play mostly mando these days but still play some guitar. I prefer smaller jams where we can actually work on tunes and learn! PM me if interested.

I cant really say Im a bluegrass picker, or even newgrass, though Im influenced that way.Ive also got rock, blues, jazz, folk and celtic music in my blood so Im kinda genretarded. I consider myself a capable player with room to learn.

I go to the OCTMA jam/meeting every now and again but would definitely be up for getting some people together. Im probably an intermediate player, just dont get to play with others much. We should try and put something together

Hey Im in. We got enough people here to do our own little support group. Lets give this thread another day to see what develops and then start contacting everyone interested. This is cool.

Count me in. Sat. nites are best for me on the weekends. Monday s and Wed during the week.I like all mando music, just not good enough to do more than fake it most of the time. I especially enjoy oppotunities to hear and participate in original material.

I went to a meeting there last fall I think. Are you the guy with the Weber? If so, Im the guy with the 1930 Lyra, who sat next to you. I have been wanting to start going to those on a semi-regular basis. At the time I was having a hard time figuring out the direction I wanted to go but now I think I could apply myself a little better.

The ones that I am talking about are at 29th and Sunny Lane in Del City (Country and Western Music Hall of Fame) and at 29th and Vickie in Del City (Kerr Elementary School). Both of these are Bluegrass shows with jam sessions in the halls and rooms. The fiddler for Larry Stephens, goes to the OCMA, he is a very good fiddler.

My wife just had a new baby girl (future bluegrass star), so the only pickin I'm getting is pickin' her up and rockin her. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There are a lot of great pickers around OKC.

I used to go to the midwest city jams , but quit going after they moved from the schools. There's not much pickin' room at the present locations.

I might be interested in a pickin'.

Givensman, The jam on the first Saturday night is still in a school, Kerr Elementary.

I guess I knew that Ron. I've just been to the Country Hall of Fame one on 29th. Left after about 30 minutes.

Yup. I'm the guy with the Weber. We should try and put something together. I'm not the greatest player, but I think if some of us got together, even if we don't learn anything we're at least bound to have a pretty good time.

This weekend at Turkey Track I met some really nice folks that have a Bluegrass Music Store in Midwest City. With appropriate apologies, I think I recall that they are Tom and Annie.Tom plays a guitar pointed the wrong way and Annie is a dynamite banjer picker. I think she said used to play up east in the New Coon Creek Girls. Anyway, they said they have jams at their store on a regular basis.

I'm sorry I can't remember more but I do know that their store is so new it is not listed in phone book...so go look for it.

Jaybee, How was the shows at Turkey Track? I didn't get to go (became a dad on the 10th, so I had to stay with her).

head out to guthrie one weekend (i went on a saturday) and you might be lucky enough to fall into a jam at Byron Berline's fiddle shop. be prepared to be blown away by his fiddle playing...he's also a heckuva mandolin picker.

Do you know where the new fitness center is in Mustang? (on Mustang Road) I've been told that it is in the Senior Center area of that building. I have not been to it, but was invited a few months ago.

solerydr
Jun-22-2004, 7:18pm
Did the person who invited you mention a time? Thats so close that Id like to go at least once just to check it out. I would probably take my mandolin but leave it in the car until I saw what was goin down.

I'm getting ready to start traveling the OK area on business. I'll usually be around for 1 to 2 weeks at a time. I'm a beginner, but plan on bringing my mandolin with me on these trips. It's easier to carry around than my guitar. I'd love to sit in with some of you guys and pick up some things, and just have a good time while I'm away from home. Keep me in mind if you get something started up, and I'll keep watching here.

Hailing from Weatherford,
I play the acoustic guitar, flat picking, and I am learning the mandolin and would like to connect with some people who are committed to acoustic music of the bluegrass/oldtime/folk rock variety. I am in the City at least once a month and would be interested in meeting some like minded folks.

Kinda looks like that's what's going to have to happen. Or we could try and get together at one of these other jams if anyone else is interested.

Hey, John Homer: We oughta get some kinda Stillwater jam going. I know there's you & me, the guys from Frisco, Don Hudiburg, Kevin (guitar player from Native Bluestem), and probably some displaced members from Dale Pierce's old group around town. I bet we could scare up a pretty good jam here in Stillwater.
Also, I think Thursday night is jam night at Lucille's in Mulhall. I keep meaning to get back out there.

davestem, sounds good. With school back in maybe we could get enough interest. Monday and Wednesday nights are best for me.

derrick,

There's a real fine mandolin picker in Clinton. Can't remember his name.

I'm from Edmond. Work in Stillwater. Commute.

Givensman,
I think I might possibly know who you are talking about. He has a band called "Jackson after the accident". There are a few more players that live around here but I can't find them. by the way, I grew up in Stillwater and my dad communitted to Edmond.

I'm a student at OSU, so I'd be up for a Stillwater mando jam.

sgarrity
Sep-08-2004, 1:07pm
Well, I'm an OSU graduate and I make it up there every now and again for games and what not. I'll have to put my mandolin in the truck next time I'm headed that way. But remember, OKC is only about an hour from Stillwater. So don't hesitate to come on down here either. Solerydr and I are trying to put some kind of jam together down here. Whenever our schedules finally match up. The more pickers, the better.

Hey Scott,

I'm a friend of James and Todd. I didn't realize that I was talking to you. Did you go to Claremore this weekend? How was it? I went to Wynnewood festival, it was fun, even with the camper problems that I had, my fingers are sore.

I look forward to meeting you at one of the shows that you'll be at.

I'm in town on business for 5 weeks, I am wondering if any of you folks in OKC are getting together to play. I went to Mustang last night but didn't play, those microphones kinda spooked me. Would be interested any evening or weekend. PM on the cafe or reply here. Thanks for reading. Sonny

I can always make a little time in my schedule to play some. The next jam I know about will be on Nov. 6. It's the OCTMA monthly jam. Usually several mandolin players around and fun people to jam with.
