View Full Version : Daley f5
Just noticed a great Daley F-5 Varnish up in the classifieds. I had a chance to play it a while back, and thought it had a great, woody tone and a really nice finish. It can peel paint from the rafters.
No financial interest. Just surprised it hasn't found a home yet, particularly since Sim's selling it with the warranty.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that thing hasn't sold yet, considering the length of his wait list and the intact warranty and free upgrades. Someone buy it quick before I do something stupid and end up divorced.

Great builder. I just got mine ( #62 )with a one piece back. I had several compliments on it at SPBGMA last weekend. It could heard in the jam in the lobby. To anyone that's been there, that should mean something. If you look at the SPBGMA pics in another thread you can imagine how much "music" was going on, so that should explain what "cut" is all about.

Yeah, after playing a friend's varnished Daley I fell in love and gave serious thought to this. Fortunately for me (I guess) I then realized that the divorce lawer would cost so much I wouldn't be able to keep it. Oh well, there are other irons in the fire. . . .but what a great mandolin he builds!!!!!

Yeah, but you make that F-5g sound pretty good from what I've heard Greg. I used to have one of those custom flamebursts myself. Nice mandolin.

Thank you Chris. I can't really complain as I think for the money the Gibson was/is a really nice mandolin (to get a Gibson with an Adi top for under $4,000). And while I joke about ending up in divorce I have a very understanding and supportive wife (she just keeps harping about all these unnecessary items like clothes and food for the kids etc.). http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But still that Daley. . . . . . .sigh.

I also had the chance to pick a few notes on that Daley and I agree with Joe. #Very nice instrument. Remarkably open and clear. #Has that already-broken-in sound. #Sim is doing nice work. #
Coincidentally, Adam Steffey is featured on the cover of the new Mandolin Magazine prominently holding his own Daley. #I can only imagine how this mando would sound in his hands...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

What am I missing here? If Sim's waiting list is up to 18 months, wouldn't you think there would be someone already on the list who ordered a Vintage mandolin that would buy this instrument?
Now if someone would only back out of one of his standard f or A models. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Hopefully it was clear that I would want someone to back out of a standard so I could buy it without the wait. Wasn't sure if that came out right.

Ctone,
You don't have to explain yourself. You are amongst fellow mandolin addicts here, and we all understand the rarely quenchable thirst known as MAS.
Cool! Thanks! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I assume this mandolin was a Daley Vintage. Does anyone remember what the asking price was?

I believe he was asking the standard $9,000 for it (and if it's anything like the ones I've tried worth every penny).
