Is this a great Gibson and a real tribute to Monroe or just another marketing thing like Martin? I know someone who has a 1991 and I may be interested. Are they a close design to a Loar and would it be worth 10 grand?

..Ive played a couple...yes they are tribute mandos to the Man...but they both sounded real well too.....worth $10,000...perhaps...I personally wouldnt give that...Ive seen them most recently in the $9-11,000 bracket though...so that price is in the ball park for what the selling price is..is it worth it to you?

They are typical of the Montana made Gibson. They do have a bolt neck and the body is not that close to the Loar. The finish is a spirit varnish. The current Master Models use a real dovetail neck joint and oil varnish. The bodies on the new ones are exact clones of the Loar mandolins. The Monroe mandolins have been bringing from 10-12 grand recently. They do sound good and when they were made they were the best Gibson had built for awhile. I do not mean this to sound like they are not a good mandolin, just different. Some may prefer the old, but most like the new Master Model. There were only 200 made so they are collectable.

i will agree that the asking price seems to be in the ball park with what others ask but from what i've observed they don't sell real fast. if you want to spend that kind of dough and need a gibson i'd look at the MM. you could probably find an Bill M autographed program on ebay to stick in your case.
