This past saturday I was asked to play bass at a birthday party. There were 5 performers, me on tub bass 2 guitars 1 banjo and a good friend of mine on mandolin. During an intermission, I picked up the Skip Kelly mandolin and played it with the 2 guitar players. It sounds so much better than my Kentucky 380s, I could hardly bear to put it down. Someway, I have got to get me a better mandolin. I have heard this particular Kelly played many times, but it is totally different to play it for yourself. It has a perfect bluegrass sound, and an unbelievable tone. And so easy to fret.Man, it just blows me away thinking about it.I don't think I have mas.I just am starting to realize the difference between mediocre and quality.

maybe two actually...

i owned kelley #16 and it was a great mandolin. unique coloring and super loud. that's a nice feeling recognizing high quality in instruments. i'm no doctor...but i think that may be the earliest stage of the MAS...
