Hey Gang, I am finally getting to go to SPGMA this weekend.

What should I expect and who all is going

Wish I could go this year. If you've never been, prepare to be blown away. You've probably never seen so many pickers indoors at once in your life. The showcase of instruments and equipment is nice, and the shows are usually great too. Last time we went we didn't even get tickets to the show, just hung out and picked and gawked at the mandolins on display.

I have never been to it or IBMA after many plans to go..
I am very excited and looking forward to getting away for a few days.

Get ready for a Bluegrass Melee! When you walk into the lobby there are bands galore picking everywhere. The lobby will be full of groups picking. The hallways are full of bands picking. Rooms are full of pickers with listeners spilling out into the hallways. Be sure and visit the Rudedogs suite. Music is played into the wee hours of the morning. You'll see many stars of blugrass milling arond the lobby talking to folks. In a word...WILD!

How's SPBGMA on Sunday morning? #Is there much jamming? #Looks like I might have the opportunity to be there mid-morning until mid-afternoon. #What time do the booths in the open area open up?

I just saw a list of awards from SPBGMA... wow! #I thought IBMA was bad! #Why not make a contempory, traditional and overall category for the instruments too while they're at it? #And what's the difference between Entertainer of the Year, Entertaining Group of the Year, Bluegrass Band of the Year (Overall)?
