View Full Version : Mandolincafe corrupting our youth
I was watching Frontline's "Growing Up Online" on PBS this week, and about 12 minutes into the show was a over the shoulder shot of a young boy at a computer. For a brief second, before he openned another window on top of it, I could of swore I saw the MandolinCafe logo (like the one in the upper left corner of these discussions) on the page he was looking at.
Did anyone else happen to catch the show?

That was an interesting program. I had always sort of thought that all this stuff about the internet being full of perils was a little overblown. Not that there aren't predators out there, or information on all kinds of nasty things, etc...But my thinking was that as long as parents do a good job of communicating the dangers and emphasizing rational thought that nothing bad was likely to come of it. There really seems to be a large penchant of hysteria in our society, and I sort of thought fear of the net was part of that. And I still feel that way to some degree...But not completely. Online community can be a great thing (this site is a testament to that), but there is another side to it. Especially when it comes to replace real community/interaction.
But for sure, no harm can come of anyone hanging out on the cafe. Unless like some of us, you end up spending endless hours here when you should be working, or practicing, or being outside, or whatever. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
