Has anyone worked out the mando intro and licks for this tune? I'm getting stuck... Some tab (or dare I say it- notation) would be a great help.
Mandogal, I normally do this one is the key of E. I'm not good at writing tab, but I'll try and post a video later on youtube in a slow version and also up to speed to help you out if noone else has the tab for it.

Niles and Doyle Lawson did a book where Doyle's recorded lines to this number are notated out. See if you can find that.

Great song. I'd imagine a turnaround tremelo kick off would work fine.

Thanks Jim. I'd love to see a viideo. My band does this one in G but once I understand what's going on, I can transpose it.

Does anyone out there have any additional info about the book Alan mentioned?

Great song. #I'd imagine a turnaround tremelo kick off would work fine.
In my opinion this method would not work on this tune. The kick off is immediatley recognizable and being in the key of F gives it a certain timbre..A generic turn around would not lead well into this tune. This song is a classic and should be treated as such. With all due respect Scot.
Mandogal, I've uploaded my version of Ocean of Diamonds to youtube. It's just a very simple version, but I think simple really works for this song. The melody line is so beautiful the way the song was written, I personally don't think it needs much embellishment.
Sorry about the quality, it was just recorded on my iMac's built in iSight but hopefully it'll help you work out a version that'll appeal to you.

Thanks Jim. I sure appreciate you taking the time to put that video up!
No problem Mandogal. When you get it worked out, I'd like to hear your version also.
Jim
Mandogal, I completely misread your original request. You want the kickoff. Here's the way I do it, again a simple version of the kickoff.

Nice... thanks for the link.
Maybe my terminology is off, but isnt the kickoff pretty much a turnaround on "Would change all the dark clouds, to the bluest of blue?"
Just wanted to clear something up, this video looks like I'm playing left handed but I forgot to revert the video from iSight and it looks like I'm playing a lefty. It's actually a regular right-handed Gibson F5G that has a red spruce top and varnished finish.
