Went to see Chris Thile and the Punch brothers in Glasgow last night. He was playing his new material. I think he says its 4 movements of music and I gather its material for his new album. As usual outstanding musicianship. Has anybody heard his new stuff yet?

He was playing a Dude, but am I correct in saying he has 2 Dude's. The Dude he played had the broken scroll on the peghead. alot of wear to the lower scroll, I guess through grazing his mandolin off microphones. I wondered if he was going to play the Loar. Does he still prefer the Dude. He sure can pull awesome tone out of that box.

thile recently broke the scroll on dude #5, which he played almost exclusively until he got his loar. i saw him with his loar at greyfox before it was set up for him and he was shipping it off to gilchrist to have the work done. i havent heard anything since.

He got his Loar back from Gilchrist, he played it briefly at a few Nickel Creek shows in November. He broke the headstock on Dude #5 in mid November in L.A. He had previously broken the headstock on Dude #14 in similar manner back about 5 (?) years ago. Not sure whether he still has Dude #14.
It remains to be seen whether he performs regularly with his Loar, he might choose not to.

If I broke the headstocks on two of my Dudes, I would probably not take my Loar out of the case very often. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
