I've decided on a Breedlove Quartz manolin. I'm now
trying to decide between the "O" style with F holes and
the "K" style with F holes. I don't have the opportunity
to play either before purchase. I play a little bluegrass
and a little Celtic, but mostly somewhere between. Has
anyone been able to compare the two? Which do you think
would be the more versatile? I've heard that the two are
very similar, just that the "K" style has a little more
bass. Thanks.

I played a k and o style last week, both with f holes and I could not hear any difference in the sound. I also talked to a local luthier whom I trust and he said that he has never heard a difference in the sound. This guy is a big fan of breedlove and so I would tend to trust his opinion.

I have played a ton of and owned a couple of Breedloves, and I have never heard any difference in the OF vs the KF, at least not any more or less than you would from one instrument of the same type to another. I ended up with an OF sunburst mostly because I liked the sound of that particular one better than any of the Quartzs I have played. I also lean to the OF because the shape is more traditional, but that's just me.
