Hello all ,

I will be soon inherited an unexpectedly large sum of money and was highly considering fulfilling my dream of owning a Gilchrist. Does anyone know whom I have to contact to discuss getting on that list I hear so much about?

Thank you

There's one for sale in the classified ad's as we speak.

No financial interest.

I was led to believe that he had an intermediary in the united states whose e-mail is different than the one on the website, I may have been misled though.

and btw, that one in the ads has real provenance, some serious mojo.

Maybe it's carmel music you heard about. At one time they were the exclusive agent. I believe everything is in house for getting on "the list". Your going to wait for a long time to get one if you want one made. I'd consider the one in the classifieds.

Here is where you will get ahold of Steve Gilchrist. Just send him an email from the contact info on the site. He will get back to you in a couple of days. I am on the list I will not never ever be able to get one. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I don't believe I've ever seen a left Gilly. Good luck.

I saw a lefty Gilchrist at IBMA in 1999 played by a Japanese man whose name I don't remember. He was good.

Of course, that would be Shin...

Shin Akimoto -- a brilliant bib-overall Compton-phile. He does have a wonderful left hand Gil.

Am I having a senior moment, or does Shin's lefty have a mirror image Gilchrist inlay on it? I remember it that way, but it's been a few years. He was right next to the Carmel/Gilchrist booth in 1999 and that lefty sure sounded good. I still remember Dexter's personal A5 Artist there too. Wow!

I am a lefty player also, always looking for high end models out there. Very hard to find. And a older model Gibson or something like that is unheard of. I would love to hear what you end up with.

Here's a photo of Shin from IBMA 2005. I was hanging out with Butch Robins and David Grier. In the photo is Butch, David, our own Cafe-tonewoods guru Bruce "Spruce" Harvie, and Shin. I'll get the photo into the photoshop to enlarge the headstock.

I can't enlarge it w/o pixellation. I can't find my original photos--these are the ones I prepared for Butch's website.

You can see that the Gilchrist inlay goes at the appropriate angle--from bass side up 45 degrees to treble.

The one I played was owned by Anthony Hannigan. His Father had it and let me play it. He said it was worth $40,000. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
