I went to a Sam Bush, Edgar Myer, Jerry Douglas concert in September last year and had Sam Bush sign my mandolin. Later that year I heard a Nickel Creek concert and got Chris Thile to sign it.

Who has signed yours?

I used to carry my mando around in this case. I figured once I got the top filled with autographs, I'd peel off the fabric and maybe put it a poster frame. As you can see, I haven't done that yet.

Let's see, I have (in no particular order) Doyle Lawson, Adam Steffey, Tim O'Brien, Michael Lantz, Ronnie McCoury, Jimmy Gaudreau, Dan Tyminski, Byron Berline, John Moore Sam Bush, Ben Winship, Emory Lester, and up on the neck is John Reischman. Oh, and need I mention, Dawg?

I used to go to a lot of festivals. After digging out this case, I'm thinking I should go to some more.

Uh, let's see......Johann D. Brentrup and Johann D. Brentrup, respectively. Why perform intentional cosmetic harm (distressing excepted, of course) to a fine musical instrument? It's worse than graffiti on a wall. I'm with mandolirius on this one.

Well, when I have a Brentrup no one will sign it but Hans, in the meantime, mine has Ricky Skaggs, Mike Marshall, Hamilton de Holanda, Dawg, Tony Williamson, Don Stiernberg, Mike Compton, Adam Steffey, and Dr. Ralph Stanley (just because). Amongst others I would like Sam Bush, Chris Thile, Ronnie McCoury and John Reischman, but I'm running out of room!

I can totally agree about keeping it nice, especially those custom built instruments. I just like playing though and I enjoy having that much mojo adorn the top of my mandolin. But seriously, when I have a Brentrup, I don't care if you're Bill Monroe back from the grave, no one's coming near it with a marker! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I knew ahead of time that I was attending a Mike Marshall workshop, and I thought how cool would it be to have him sign my personal mando. Even brought along a Sharpie for the purpose. We were sitting there winding things up and I had my chance, but at the very last minute I felt that the whole idea was silly. So I changed my mind.
Then I attended an Indigo Girls concert of which both women play the mandolin at times. I had the chance to have Amy Ray sign my mando as I had it with me while I was talking to her. But again, at the last minute, I felt that it was a silly idea, and changed my mind.
Maybe someday.

I'm with Fred... #I keep a silver Sharpie in my accessory pocket and get signatures on my Travelite. #I figure once it's full or worn out, I'll just buy a new one and hang the old one on the wall. #So far I've got Doyle Lawson, J.D. Crowe, Wayne Benson, Russell Moore, and Oscar Sullivan.

I had Sam Bush sign my Bush model however I had him sign the inside of the tailpiece cover. That way it's not really de-facing the mando and if I really wanted to I could get a new cover and put on.

I got Mike Marshall to sign a pick :-)

too bad they dont make mandolin-player cards...THAT would make a nice bridge to my childhood. actually, these days with one-off digital printing presses, maybe I should make my own series of mando cards? who'd buy em?

Now that is a great idea! You could fill the back of the card with band stats, awards, styles and songs that have held there own in the genre...not toe mention stats on their rigs.

This could be branched out to all kinds of instrumentalists and could be purchased as a pack with limited edition. Then take the cards to the festivals and have them signed, thereby saving mandolin tops forever.

man I could kill a whole lotta time with photoshop on this mando card thing. too bad there's probably no money in it and free time is rare these days, not to mention the logistics of getting permission from the artists. twould be fun tho.

I have Sam Bush, Dawg, and Andy Statman in Sharpie adorning the side of my first mando. #It's great to look down and see their signatures. #I remember the magical sensation of seeing Willie Nelson's guitar with a virtual layer of Hall of Fame autographs.

Here's my signed John Ramsey F-5. Sam was the first to sign it. Then Danny Roberts, Ronnie McCoury, Alan Bibey, John Moore, and Sierra Hull. I still need Thile and the Dawg among others. Here's a little known fact, Sharpies improve the tone of a mandolin 50 to 70%. I swear!
