Just a wee story: At the tail end of last year I bid on a nearly new Ritter gig bag on Ebay, got it for £15. When it arrived it had an Ashbury oval hole mandolin in it ! I emailed the seller thinking that he had forgotten to take it out before posting but was told that he decided to leave it in as a wee present for Xmas!!!!

Wow! What kind of mando is it? There's human kindness and then there's extreme generosity.

Great story, it's hard to turn on the human when they are kind. I have a great story. Bought a violin case, that was falling apart for a violin, for a give away to a youth that was just starting. I paid 5 bucks for this case. When I picked the case up I heard something inside, turned out to be a violin in parts, all there. I paid the owned another 100 bucks for everything. This was a 1872 built violin. Repaired it and played it for a while, tried to give it to the granddaughter, who by the way performed at Carnige Hall this past june, she didn't like the rough finish, and took something that was highly polished. Long story, but I sold the violin for 7K. To repay the seller, I set up all his instruments, and do minor repair for him. We are both very grateful for this event. I was blessed by a gentleman named Albert Milligan, who taught me how to play the violin, repair, and build from stratch. Albert built 107 violins, and taught me how to set up and finish the last 21 violins he built. The only thing he requested, was that I use the instrument repair and building skill to promote music. I buy, pick up donations and repair, and at times build from sctatch instruments, that I donate to youth and give them enough lessons (I do have a bluegrass band Desert Willow, and I play mando) to get started. I think it's a wounderful way to repay Mr Milligan for his donation to me. I did play the violin at his funeral this past Nov at his graveside in the Mountains at Reserve NM. He was 97 years and played until 6 months prior to his death. Keep the music rolling, and pass on great things to others. Jim

Both are great stories. This kid of stuff has never happened to me, but I agree that paying it forward is sincerest form of thanks.
