a seemingly excellent condition signed Loar resting for a week unsold? is the opportunity cost of 130k to much to warrant speculation? have all the top pickers who can afford one got one? does Dr Mark have too much inventory to leverage this one? has Steve Gilchrist redefined "the tone"?what gives?

Believe it's the same instrument, same owner. Someone correct this if it's not so. The $150K one was a Fern. Believe the owner is a board member.

These things just don't get snapped up like it's a 10 cent lollipop. There is mostly a cadre of Loar folks who trade them around, buy them, sell them, many times to each other. I know of specific pieces which have been bought/sold/bought by the same folks.

There is a Loar from 1924 with the signature scratched off at Gruhn's for 90K. Been there a few weeks. Is there a story behind this instrument? What gives with the signature being scratched out? Just curious.

Rumor has it that Skinner's Auction House will be putting up a Mint condition specimen. Every time they have had one on the block, the price bar has been raised. Their May '04 auction didn't have any Loars and I believe their Fall Musical Instrument auction will be in in October.
