Not to knock on NC ... but Glen has the songwritting skills to really help that band shine. He sat in on an encore when I saw them recently here in SF, and it sounded great.
... add JPJ to the mix and this should be an awesome show to catch.

I'm gonna be heading up to the birchmere to check them out with glen. glen is an awesome guy and I can't wait to see them with him. This will be my 5 NC concert. I saw them with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and I tell you that was a show to see. David can really pick that guitar. I would love to see Gillian again.

I've heard a couple of Glen's songs that they all recorded together. They were really amazing. Have always loved Toad and the blending of these two talents is just a perfect match. Probably going to the Roxy show in LA.
That Hollywood Bowl thing looks interesting too and the sound at that venue is amazing! Not to mention under the stars in the Hollywood Hills!
I also read on Glen's site that John Paul Jones and the drummer from the Attractions are touring with them.

Hey Wannbethile,
My favorite Toad record is Dulcinea. I'd start with that one if you've never gotten into them.
Glen Phillip's solo record "Abulum" is really good too. It's a bit more simple. I've heard versions of songs from this album that Mutual Admiration Society have recorded and are amazing. We'll probably hear some of these tunes for sure on the tour.:)

Dulcinea is sure great, but Coil is my favorite from Toad.

"If we actually believed we were going to be famous, do you really think we would have named the band Toad the Wet Sproket?"
- Glen Phillips
I'm probably getting some of the quote wrong, but that's been cracking me up since the day I heard it years ago. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Ive Actually never heard of Glen Phillips until Nickel Creek mentioned him, then He sang 'Let it Fall' on Seans first solo album, which to say, hes pretty cool.
Nickel Creek, HAS Been up here in Wahsington millions of times. Come to think of it, they will be back up here for this tour, everytime they come I cant afford it, therefore I cant go. I always bring this up, but the closest I was to going to a concert was when If I won a bet with my dad (something about the Civil War) then I could go to a Portland show. BUT AGAIN... Hes more of a Civil War buff than I So I didnt go.
My Best friend Lizzie went to a Concert of theirs once and got to go backstage and meet em all, and I beleive it was Chris who told Lizzie to tell me something like "See You in the Mando World, Girl!"......or something like that.... Thats what She Said anyhoo.... I dunno if I believe her.. LOL.

They seem to skip Arizona alot. Thats why I'm making the trek to LA to see Mutual Admiration Society since its kind of a special gig. They did play here for their second tour and the place seemed pretty full. Also, after cerfew (sound cerfew...dont ask) they were gracious enough to ask the crowd if we would like to hear them play unplugged (REALLY unplugged... without PA). We all gathered closer to the stage and it was pretty magical... I've got a crush on Sara, and its all because of that angelic voice http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Additional info...kinda:
Announcing: John Paul Jones to tour this summer
[June 8] John Paul Jones will tour the U.S. beginning on July 27th in Seattle. You can view the tour dates which I've posted on his website, johnpauljones.com. I've been working with JPJ on a new site that we will be launching soon. -Sam
Official announcement: John Paul Jones will be performing throughout the US this summer as a guest performer with a project called the Mutual Admiration Society.
The Mutual Admiration Society is Glen Phillips (ex Toad The Wet Sprocket), with Sara Watkins, Chris Thile, and Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek).
John has been invited as a very special guest to join the band on this tour performing their material. The whole show is an "Evening with Mutual Admiration Society" so you can also expect to hear some of John's own material, other collaborations and a few surprises.
