On another post I clicked on a " youtube " thingamabob
and ( 1st time ever on u tube ) and found a version by Paul McCartney.... I really liked it. The only thing that was a shame was that there was no mandolin in it.
Who would have thought Sir Paul liked that song ? Guess I have to start looking for more surprises..

I have an old Al Cooper LP (before he became Alice) with this song on it. It rocks! Or, at least it used to...

He did it live on that old "Live Unplugged MTV" show and then a CD came out from that show. In the show he makes reference to it being an old Bill Monroe tune so Paul knows his history.

If you've ever watched the DVD "Bill Monroe - Father of Blue Grass",there's a clip of Paul McCartney singing B M O Ky..Ricky Skaggs, who does the narration for that part of the film says that the whole influence came from the original ''Brother'' #duets, who influenced the Everley Bros.,who in turn influenced the Beatles.
# I've always regreted the fact that he greatest harmony singers ever, the Everlys (IMHO !),never decided to record a Bluegrass album with a good band of musicians. I know that it would have been a ''one off'' type of thing, but their vocal harmony leaves me breathless, especially their version of 'Kentucky',my all-time favourite harmony vocal,

Sir Paul did a version of "That's Alright Mama" on the Sun Records tribute album a few years ago. It rocks! Shouldn't be a surprise, though, since those boys cut their theeth on Carl Perkins, Little Richard and the King.

i forget where I saw it, most likely YouTube, but a while back i saw a video of all four Beatles doing an impromptu version of Blue Moon of Ky and they talk about Bill M. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find it again. It was an OK version - but not the best I've heard by far.

I believe you are confusing Alice Cooper with Al Kooper. Al Kooper did a version of Blue Moon on his 1968 debut record.

Neil, that's just plain creepy.
With the snappy cowbell click track, I guess the tempo is the only thing in the video that doesn't, er... drag.

That was sent to me by a clogging friend, and I've been tempted to post it at the Cafe for months. I was afraid that it might result in a lynch mob, though...

Well, I've forgotten just how differently a song can be played. Nice to hear the various versions that are on the " tube ". So far the one guy playing a guitar with a LOT of revber and Sir Paul on TV were the best I've heard.
I GOTTA give this a try tonight at a little jam. Luckily, the hard core old fashioned B.G. guys cant throw me out.......
Its at my house..
