I expect that this is common knowlege and/or has been discussed already, so I apologize for bringing it around again.

I can't tell from watching videos, tho, and I'm curious which of the three they use.

Thanks,

stv

Are there any web photos of them using the mic?

I use the KSM44 in the studio and it is a terrific mic. On stage I use the KSM137 for mando. People always comment on the sound of the mando.

Thanks, Pete!

I posted this over on the rec.audio.pro newsgroup and a fella there
sez that the Shure website says that they use the KSM 27 for the
guitar & mandolin.

Ah, well... I just got a great deal on a KSM-44 on eBay anyway.

I'm sure I won't regret it. <GG>

Thanks,

stv

I think you got the right mic, stv. The 44 SHOULD be more versatile than the 27. It has 3 polar patterns, so for studio or stage you should have it nailed. Flux Douglas on the AKUS live DVD is using one on his Dobro, and well, you already know what his sound is like! I hope you got a good deal on it. I was inches away from getting one and was talked into an AKG 414BTLII instead. Since it's about the same price and has 4 patterns, and in just about every studio in the world, I guess it is even more versatile than a KSM.
