View Full Version : Working through stiernberg etudes
I usu. copy all of the jazz things that Don authors in the Mandolin Magazine and put them in a book. This morning, worked through a 2001 article he did on dim passages. He noted out some lines to 'S Wonderful in Eb minor to E dim. Simple, effective and lovely, and it will get your ears used to that sound, so much so that in a ii-V-I, you'll want to use 'em every time!

Alan, which issue are you talking about? I still have a few from '01. Those articles are great stuff. I'm working on his chord melody for "Autumn Leaves", from the Fall '01 issue. Hey Don, how 'bout an Anthology of your columns? You might have a few takers around here.
Regardless, muchas gracias!

Thanks for the highlight Alan! I had just re-arranged my music books (re-arranging is always a good substitute for opening them....) after we moved into a new house. Got my very own corner of the basement now. I looked at all those Mando Mags on the shelf waiting for me and was overwhelmed. Whoa, where to start??
So when you point out a handy article that ought'a plug in many places, sounds like a great place to start.
Keep mining those jewels. Jim
Well, I just looked again and I actually don't see a date, or the issue # on the music page. I copy them and stick em in a book. And for 'S Wonderful, it's actually Eb to E dim. And I also have the Autumn Leaves in there too.
So much hip music, so little time...
