View Full Version : Kevin macleod video clips
I'm sure Kevin is too shy to post these himself, but here are some great video clips of Kevin playing with Alec Finn and Luke Plumb:

A big thanks to Peter Hill of Exeter for sorting this upload out for us - he's a bouzouki nut like the rest of us all, and a fine musician as well. I'm sure many of you will know him from the Zoukfest camps. Thanks a lot Pete!

I think I'm sitting just out of shot somewhere over to the left of the camera! That was a great night first time round, and it's brilliant to get the chance to see it again. I'd gotten the tickets for my birthday, having just taken up the mando about 3 months before.
It really was an inspiration seeing such a great range of players all on the one stage. Went out about a month later and bought my first Eastman off the back of it (having only played a bowl back up til then).
Any plans for another Glasgow gig anytime soon Kevin?
PS Already booked my tickets for Thile at CC '08 - Roll on January!!

Dave, delighted that you enjoyed the show, and more so that it moved you to get a good Eastman mandolin. They are very good instruments, great value and so well made. I hope you're enjoying it. My good friend Jim Mackie, who does wonderful instrument photography for me, owns a lovely Eastman F5 which I have played
I have no plans for any gigs, in fact I have only played once since then solo! Unfortunately, as far as I can tell there is no great demand for such performances, and it was fairly unique and thoughtful of Donald Shaw, of Celtic Connections, to actually put on the gig. Perhaps someone somewhere down the line might like to ask, who knows?
If you like, you can catch me just before Christmas on BBC radio Scotland's "Take The Flor" with Robbie Shepherd, the flagship Scottish traditional dance programme on which the band I play in "The Occasionals" are taking the stage. Gonna do a bouzouki solo!
Do say hello if our paths cross again - hope to get to see Thile too.

Sobell octave mandolin. It's mine, actually. He has a Buchanan.
Background info: This was a concert advertised as a 'Mandolin Night' at Celtic Connections in Glasgow in Jan this year.
Kevin opened the evening with Alec and Luke. Luke then did a short solo performance, and the first half closed with Josh Goforth from America, accompanied by Laura Boosinger on guitar.
I opened the second half, accompanied by Colin on guitar and bouzouki. After my spot, we brought on Kevin, Luke and Alec for the performances you see on the videos where we played 2 sets of Scottish pipe tunes.
At the very end we brought on Josh and Laura for a fun jam on 'The High Road to Linton' and 'Soldiers Joy', where Laura and Josh did a bit of singing.
It was a grand night, and I'm pleased to hear it prompted at least one member of the audience to go and buy a mandolin!
This year Celtic Connections is focusing on other instruments, including 'Harp Heaven', 'Accordion Hell', ! and a hurdy-gurdy night.

Excellent stuff.
Anyone like to help me out and post names of tunes in the clips? There's only a couple I recognise.

I think I put most of the names of the tunes at the very end of each clip, scrolling on a blue background. I can't actually see the clips on my computer, so am not sure if they are there - they should be!
Unfortunately, the "anonymous" filmer did not film the whole show, as there wasn't enough film in the old camera, so we missed Dagger's, Luke's and Josh's excellent sets. All the more reason to do it again, I say!

I'll let Kevin sort out his sets. Mostly stuff from his last CD 'Dorney Rock' I believe.
The stuff I was involved in were The Taking of Beaumont Hamel (2/4 march)/ JF MacKenzie(strathspey)/The Blackberry Bush + Lexie MacAskill (reels).
The set of jigs was Inspector Campbell of Ness (I think - perhaps it's The Kitchenmaid)/ The Thief of Lochaber/ The Seagull.
All Scottish pipe tunes.

Beautiful stuff - and the kind of reception you deserve, unlike the disappointingly attended gig in Lewisham back in March. Southerners don't know what they're missing.

Great stuff!! Thanks!
The first jig in the fourth video... I think a friend of mine, fiddler/concertina-ist Matt Williamson, plays that, but we don't know the name. That's a four-part jig, yes?
Thanks,
