Many thanks to whoever said that the Mair Davis Duo CD, "The Sounding Joy" was of on their favorite Christmas albums on a similar thread last year...I would never have discovered it otherwise. In my mind one the most beautiful Chirstmas recordings ever.

A few other mando-esch Chirstmas albums I love:

David Grisman - Accoustic Christmas (self explainatory. Every time I listen to this album the room warms up a bit)

John Doan - Wrapped in White (thanks to whoever suggested this on last year! A few mando tracks with a ton of great vintage and usually unheard instrumentation throughout)

New England Yuletide (a great collection in an ongoing series on North Star Records that features a number of interesting pieces and arrangements. Marilynn Mair is on several tracks here along with the Enigmatica Mandolin Octet)

I'm sure its been done every year, but I would love to hear your favorites for the holiday season. It's a great way to discover new albums (ala the Mair Davis Duo) and order them before the season ends!

Don't forget Butch Baldassari's CD with mandolin music for Christmas! (http://www.soundartrecordings.com/evergreen.shtml)

A great Christmas gift for relatives and friends and another way to support Butch.

Good luck!

Nice work Terry -- I especially enjoyed your take on God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

Austin's Asylum Street Spankers (think "Hot Club" meets "Spike Jones") has a Christmas-themed CD called A Christmas Spanking (http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Spanking-Asylum-Street-Spankers/dp/B000MV9OLS/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1196118633&sr=1-8). (They have several other CD's listed at Amazon as well, including a Kid's oriented CD called "Mommy Says No!", as well as the not-so-kids-oriented CD "Dirty Ditties". http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

Also, here are couple of older threads that may help you round out your collection:
# 2006 (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=40188;hl=christmas)
# 2005 (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=30086;hl=holiday) (one of my favorites from this thread is the Klezmonauts' Oy to the World (http://www.oytotheworld.com/))

(I think there was another longer thread from last year, but I can seem to find it under search terms "Holiday" or "Christmas". http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif #)

I was at Cracker Barrel last week and had the Sunrise Sampler Breakfast (yum!). On the way out, I noticed a CD for sale called "Bluegrass Christmas." All instrumentals, with Stuart Duncan, David Grier and Mike Compton on Mandolin! Fo $11, it was one of my best purchases this Holiday Season. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
