So I've been playing on a Johnson $65 POS that served its purpose. I never played mando before so didn't want to drop a ton of money if I didn't like it. Well I liked it and quickly realized the Johnson wasn't going to suffice.

After posting looking for a reasonably priced upgrade ($500 or less) Steve Perry sent me a private message about some Eastman demos he was going to have available. So I snatched up an MD-505 and it just arrived here at work (i'm a teacher). Luckily I have my planning time right now so I could pop it open and strum a bit.

Holy moly! What a difference a little quality makes. Not only does it look prettier but it sounds a ton better . . . but what surprised me the most is that what everyone on here says was just proved right for me--quality instruments with quality set up PLAY so much easier. The fiddle tunes I've been working on around 138 bpm I can tell already I can kick up a couple notches with no problem.

This will definitely be a joy to play. Now with my hand Dr's appt today hopefully I can get that straightened out as well.

Thanks go to Steve and Gianna Violins for a great price and easy sale!

Steve's the man! Did you get the voodoo? If not, no worries. His regular setup sounds great.

No, no Voodoo for me as that would have put it over my price range. Whatever he did for his basic setup sure makes it a breeze to play as is.

Good move. I'm sure it's a huge difference from that Johnson. And for under $500? That's a lot of instrument for your money.

I'm another satisfied Gianna Violins customer BTW, they're the kind of folks I like to deal with.

Cool, man! More proof that starting out with an instrument of reasonable decent quality really is worth it for children and adults alike. Don't worry...soon the MAS will set in and you will be searching, saving and waiting to aquire your next beauty.

Well it came in at $500 exactly all things included. No costs tacked on later on like "yea the mando is $500. . . . oh and the case is $75. . . . and the setup $50. . . and shipping $35." Very straight up deal.

It's always good to know what ails you. Good luck. I hope you can work it out, Curtis.
