I'm curious about Krishot mandolins and never come across them in the wild. Anyone out there who owns one or has played one and has a review?
Thanks,

I played one, it was wonderfully musical sounding. A tad quiet, but wonderful fit and finish and tone.
Krishots are wonderful mandolins. I have been lusting after one for a long time. When I lived in Colorado, one of my good friends had a Krishot A, and one of his bandmates and another local picker each had a Krishot F5. All were strong mandolins in every respect, including tone and workmanship.
You'll notice that Krishots rarely come up for sale in the Cafe classifieds. I believe that is indicitive that the Krishot owners out there are content with their mandolins and not turning them over. Bryon Berline's Double Stop Fiddle Shop, one of the few (two?) Krishot dealers in the US, has a new F5 listed for $2750. I wish I had the money to pull the trigger on that.

I have played a few Krishot's at The Pickin Parlor in Arvada Co. For quite a while a friend and I felt they were the "pick of the liter" among many nice mando's in Kits' collection there. Last time I dropped by there with pick in hand, they had some nice Krishot A's in stock. I highly recommend the Krishot mandolins.

I got to play the Krishot in Byron Berlines shop. It is a very fine mando. It has a varnish finish. I might have bought it, but Byron had this cedar topped Yellowstone that I couldnt pass up. I believe Byrons is the Kristufek. They have an EK on the headstock. Again, great mando. And a great man selling it.

They are indeed rare and desireable. There is one at Harry Boetzke's shop (http://www.hboetzkes.com/) in Helmond (NL) for EUR 3200 (NFI), that's big bucks now with the dollar through the floor (close to $5000). Here's the link (http://www.hboetzkes.com/index.php?page=shop.flypage&product_id=187&category_id=dbdfb90115618801b66ccd58f4bca730&option=com_phpshop) to the gorgeous photos. I played this one at EWOB and listened to others try it out. It is really something special.

I had a Krishot for about 5 years. Mine was a fairly early model F5 and I was the second owner. The number on the label was 47 and it was made in 1991. I only sold this mandolin to satisfy MAS. It was very playable, with the high end better than the bass. The neck on this particular mandolin was a little wider than I personally like, but others found it very comfortable.
When I sold it here on the cafe, I received numerous inquiries. I was a little taken aback by the interest in my mandolin. It was sold to a very enthusiastic player in Arizona. After selling it, I was asked by several friends why I didn't let them know it was for sale. Who knew?
